PTDI Holds C-130 Aircraft Induction, Marking the Start of the Modernization Program for 9 Indonesian Air Force Hercules Aircraft
Bandung (26/11) – PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) held an Aircraft Induction ceremony for the C-130 Hercules, marking the arrival of the first C-130 Hercules unit owned by the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) at PTDI’s Aircraft Services (ACS) hangar in Bandung. The event also included the signing of the official Handover Minutes (BA) for the C-130 aircraft between TNI AU, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense (Kemhan RI), and PTDI, which serves as the formal basis for commencing the modernization process of the first unit.
The ceremony was attended by PTDI’s Director of Commerce, Technology & Development, Moh Arif Faisal; Head of the C-130 Modernization Task Force (Kasatgas), Col. Arif Djoko; as well as the Aircraft Induction teams from the Ministry of Defense and TNI AU. Today’s momentum also marks the beginning of the modernization program for nine (9) C-130 aircraft units, covering the Center Wing Box Replacement (CWBR) and the Avionic Upgrade Program (AUP), all of which will be carried out at PTDI.
This program is a follow-up to the modernization contract for nine (9) C-130 aircraft units agreed upon by PTDI and the Defense Logistics Agency (Baloghan) of the Ministry of Defense. “In preparation, PTDI has established a strategic collaboration with the Air Force Materiel Maintenance Command (Kohartamatau) to optimize human resources from both PTDI and TNI AU, utilize special tools and ground support equipment, and access PTDI’s bonding and composite facilities. These efforts form part of PTDI’s commitment to preparing the technical facilities, special equipment, and qualified personnel required to ensure the smooth execution of the modernization of all nine C-130 units,” said Moh Arif Faisal.
With capabilities and facilities fully prepared and based in Indonesia, this program strengthens national self-reliance in the maintenance and modernization of TNI AU’s strategic heavy transport aircraft, which play vital roles in logistics missions, humanitarian operations, and national defense.
Conducting the C-130 modernization domestically is a strategic step by the Government to reduce dependence on overseas facilities and accelerate the maintenance cycle of TNI AU aircraft. For PTDI, the program represents a long-term investment in developing technical competencies, enhancing component production capabilities, and strengthening the national defense industry ecosystem. Moving forward, the successful modernization of the C-130 fleet will expand Indonesia’s capabilities in military transport aircraft MRO and reinforce PTDI’s position as a center for air defense equipment maintenance with global-level expertise.
“This is the first Hercules aircraft that we will modernize at PTDI. As we know, one of the Government’s current policies is to empower our defense industry. To strengthen the existing defense system, we highly expect that its maintenance can be carried out by our national defense industry, in this case, PTDI,” added Col. Fitra A. Yani, Senior Procurement Manager of Pus Alpalhan Baloghan, Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia.
